As a reminder, Mark Cavendish is your yellow jersey wearer today. Soak it up, Cav. #TDF2016 https://t.co/eWlAyK63iw— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
The day started with a TLG favourite wearing yellow, and there was a good chance another could end up with the leader's jersey come the end of the day, in the shape of Peter Sagan.
Jasper Stuyven's just taken the third KOM climb in the shadow of a giant cardboard cutout of Mont St Michel. Welcome to the #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Jasper Stuyven provided the first of the day's jersey changes, whilst taking in some of France's finest cardboard scenery. The day wasn't going as smoothly for Alberto Contador, though, among others:For those of you doubting the cutout. I ask you. https://t.co/7aMRzWzg29— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Meanwhile, Tommy Voeckler kept himself entertained with a game of Human Buckeroo:Incident has caused bike changes for Tony Martin, Kittel, Rodriguez, Rui Costa, Contador and others. 2 crashes in 2 days for Contador. #TDF— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Safe to say not much else was happening at this point, as Kev also resorted to childhood games:Tommy Voeckler's got four or five rain jackets shoved into every pocket and orifice he can find, as he drops back to the car #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016In fact, the only real 'highlight' was the first glimpse of the new Alpecin advert:
Kev's mood was dealt a further blow when a famous face didn't turn up in prime pun location:First sighting of this year's cringeworthy Alpecin advert. This year: Tom Dumoulin in the shower. pic.twitter.com/EXZys2Klr9— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
But then:I am genuinely saddened that the Tour Devil hasn't set up camp in Helleville. #TDF 👿— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
And THEN:Stuyven has attacked the break! Voss tries to follow him as it flattens out, but this is probably win or bust now! #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Damn that Andrew Steel!Sagan, Martin, Alaphillippe, EBH all prominent in the peloton, as the curse of @AndrewSteel88's favour hits Richie Porte! Tyre change. #TDF— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Stuyven made a bid for glory:
But the Manx Missile's time in yellow was over:Stuyven digs deep as the lead drops to 40". Slagter is a few bike lengths clear of the peloton as he bids for the win. #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Stuyven's efforts came to nothing:Cavendish has been dropped, so this stage will be for the GC lead. #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
And Kev got a little excited with the winner:The peloton has caught him, Sagan, Alaphillippe, Rodriguez for the win? #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
Not that he knew about it:PETER SAGAN TAKES THE STAGE WIN, AND THE YELLOW JERSEY! #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
And while Sagan was the big winner of the day, there were also a couple of big losers:Sagan hadn't even realised he won! He knew the break was clear and was boxed in when they were caught so he didn't see it. #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
GC times: Valverde +10", Froome, Quintana, TVG, Aru, Bardet +14", Nibali, Pinot +25", Contador +1'02". Massive loss for Contador. #TDF2016— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
So, with that punchy second stage finish done with, it's another stage for the sprinters tomorrow and @AndrewSteel88 will be over at @Laughing_Group to tweet you through it.Richie Porte's puncture also cost him dear, he's already 1'59" off the lead and 1'45" off Froome, Quintana et al. Tour over already? #TDF— The Laughing Group (@Laughing_Group) 3 July 2016
